Salad Shack reviews

By Katherine A. at 2016-12-06

I had this place bookmarked for a while and I finally got to try it out a few months ago during the school year. It's now a regular spot for me!

Friendly staff; they're patient and helpful especially if you're a newbie/overwhelmed by the menu. It's a bright and clean space.

Salads or wraps can be selected from the menu (17 options) or you can make your own (pick lettuce, 5 toppings, dressing). They also offer juices, pearl iced green teas, pearl slushy ices along with plenty of other 'basic' beverage options - iced and hot coffee, seltzer, soda, water. Salad shack also offers soups (3 options daily), sandwiches (4 options) and a fairly new item - rice bowl/wrap (kind of like a Chipotle burrito bowl).

Personal favorites:

- Superman $9.50
mixed greens, chick peas, beets, edamame, grilled chicken, hard boiled eggs, cashews with balsamic vinaigrette dressing

- Pasta Salad $7.50
romaine, penne pasta, tomatoes, mixed bell peppers, grilled chicken, olives, parmesan, cranberries with ranch dressing

- Chicken Caesar $7.50
romaine, grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, chick peas, croutons, parmesan with caesar dressing

Great Great Great Experience.

Very clean, prompt and friendly service; not to mention my food was delicious ..... Will definitely be returning especially since it is in the neighborhood. So happy about this place.....

I was looking for a place which has healthy meal options for lunch and I came across Salad Shack. They have salad, sandwich, soup, smoothie, and juice. For salad and juice, you can build your own from given ingredients. I got half and half with creamy tomato soup and build your salad (I added almonds, dried raisin, cucumber, edamame, and croutons with sesame dressing; it tastes like Asian sesame chicken salad from Panera). I also got Thai ice tea and everything was really delicious. I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area!

It's a great place to grab something healthy around Fresh Meadows and to me it seems like a healthier Chipotle. I got the Mediterranean rice bowl with avocados which was full of flavor and filled me up way more than a bowl from Chipotle or Qdoba. I've had their salads before but I wasn't really impressed since you can make these salads at home. Their menu is relatively cheap so it's very affordable for us college students.

This place is definitely on top of my list for take out.

They also have bubble tea!

Salad Shack is very efficient which makes it an awesome lunch time choice. We put in an office order with about ten items. The order was ready in about 20 mins and everything was correct. Their reliability is superb.

I had a custom wrap. All of the ingredients were fresh, and the wrap tasted great without dressing. The price point was fantastic too. All of the item were about $8-10.

I stopped in here one evening for the famous salads and enjoyed my own DIY-Do It Yourself salad. There were a few people in front of me and I had to wait awhile before I ordered which was great to have additional time to figure out what I want before I get to the register looking like duh. LOL

My salad was romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, corn, cucumbers, soy beans and tangerine slices equals yummy! The salad was a bit pricey. However, it was fulfilling and I ate it all one sitting. I also ordered the green tea bubble tea which was a great combination.

The staff were friendly and answered my questions with no attitudes. I remember parking was limited in the area and there wasn't a lot of commercial stores in the immediate area. This is definitely a spot I would check out again.

I got the taro green milk tea with bubbles today,  but I've also tried their Thai tea bubble tea in the past.  Yes,  they do use powder to make their bubble teas but I must say that it doesn't taste all that bad.  From a scale of 1 to 10 I will give this bubble tea a solid 6. It doesn't give you that nasty powdery taste like most other places around here does it which I really appreciate.  I'll only get bubble tea here if I need a quick fix and don't want to travel all the way to flushing for real bubble tea. Also, their Thai tea bubble tea is probbaly one of the better ones that they have.

Love me some salad shack. This place has some healthy alternatives for food and is really good as well as inexpensive. Definitely a jewel in the rough that not too many people are aware exists lol.

At 1 pm, we had an empty stomach and a full bowl of "The Moose" salad, with romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, celery, sliced tomato, blue cheese crumbles, carrots and the Shack's signature crunches.
Roughly 30 minutes later, the stomach was satisfyingly filled and the large clam shell-shaped bowl was completely empty. Every last carrot sliver.
Hard to believe this excellent salad specialty shop has been so close to my workplace for so long and I never found it on my own. Thank heavens for Yelp that I discovered such a new favorite. Glad for all you excellent reviewers for your raves.
They've got other choices, sandwiches and wraps, yogurt and sweet treats. And I really can't wait to check out the smoothies soon.
So good, so friendly, so convenient and so yummy.

I had never ordered from Salad shack before or have even seen it yet. I live fairly close to the place but never saw it on union ever.

Last week, sporadically, I decided to order off GrubHub and went with Salad Shack, after seeing some really good reviews and pictures. I ordered a rice bowl, a sandwich, and some soup, since I was especially hungry and also had to meet their minimum. Got a call from Salad Shack a few mins after placing my order, and they said they were out of the soup I wanted, so I had to pick something else. No big deal.

I'm sitting here expecting the food to take 45-60 minutes. Trust me when I say, 20 minutes later my foods at my door. That's fine by my standards. I dig into my rice bowl and wrap, and they're both delicious. The Clam Chowder wasn't too "sandy" and everything was pretty delicious. I was pretty filled up by the end of it.

Good job Salad Shack!

Very nice establishment. Came here twice, only for drinks but I planned to come back again to try perhaps one of their sandwiches or salad! I ordered the mango slush and mango green tea. What I especially liked was the fact they they have pulp in their mango and strawberry drinks, which makes it more interesting. The last time I visited, I tried the lychee slush in which you can add jelly for 75 cents. The little jellies are star-shaped and are super cute! Prices are reasonable as a well! Would recommend!

I love having this healthy option near Jamaica. Its a 10min drive from work but worth the commute. The salads are delicious and fresh as always and I am currently scarfing down the Med rice bowl in completely bliss. Its delicious! I should of asked for extra lettuce!

Awesome place

Really great atmosphere along with fresh food prepared quickly and efficiently. I was up in Queens visiting a friend and we were looking for somewhere fun and relatively quick to go eat and salad shack impressed both of us with its top notch ingredients and affordable price. I would highly suggest to people who are fans of chipotle or other casual southwest food to try salad shacks rice bowl. It was significantly better then any other burrito bowl I've ever gotten from any other fast casual restaurant while remaining at about the same price. Can't wait to go back to Salad Shack!

I didn't go to the place but I ordered I was very surprised when I saw this restaurant salad bar because it's weird to find such a great place around Jamaica.
The food was delicious I made my own salad and I thought It would be normal. Size and it was huge, I loved it, it was very fresh the vegetables and the chicken I also loved the fact I could order my juice as I like. And I love the presentation.
MY husband order a sandwich and he's not into healthy style but he loves it as the kinda fried veggies are delicious.
I will definitely want to go to the place and try different salads and juices.
I also ordered a tomato and zucchini soup for my baby and he loves it it was very soft and it was low in sodium and condiments.

Came here for lunch with every intention to "eat healthy" and still got the heaviest dish on the menu, the Metropolitan bowl. Very similar to Chipotle but tastes even better to me and it wasn't even cold. Would definitely stop by if I'm in the area again.

This is The Promised Land of Salad! So many unique options, dressings, teas and organic juices. I never visit Flushing without having my fix of BoBo Tea. In search of tea, I stumbled upon Salad Shack. It was almost high noon and I was famished, so I GPS' d it and found parking close by.

I was greeted by Ian who was polite, prompt and professional. I reviewed the menu and decided on Salad To Riches. Walnuts, cranberries, parmesan cheese, tomato, cucumber on a bed of romaine spring mix featuring a Mango Vinegarette dressing. I paired my salad with a Taro Green Bubble Tea with tapioca balls. The Taro Milk Green tea was light, refreshing and not overly sweetened.

Everything was finger lickin good. This place is nothing but a blessing to lunch breaks. Service and the cost effective quality of the food won my heart over.

By Eileen C. at 2016-06-12

Ordered the Metropolitan bowl with rice and avocado minus the chicken. It was exactly what I wanted for lunch. Very healthy and light, but fulfilling! Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

By Gina M. at 2016-07-24

I was pleasantly surprised to find out about this place. The salads I ordered were fresh and tasty. Cant wait to try their smoothies and bubble teas. What a nice place to eat healthy. The prices are closer to city prices but the portions are big and made to order. No pre prepared salads all ingredients are mixed in front of you. Staff is young and friendly. Will be visiting again in the future.

My husband placed an order for pick up and when he came back... by far one of the best shrimp cesar salads I've had in a long time. The portion of the salad was good too. Not gigantic and not a baby portion. It left me feeling perfectly full. We bought 2 more salads. The king of Queens and a spicy buffalo 1 and by how clean the plates were I'll go ahead and say they had no complaints! I'll definitely be eating from this place again, for sure.

By James K. at 2016-07-10

It was good, but avocado was all crushed up. They only give about a couple slices worth, as well. You can customize your salad, but it's not a whole lot of choices to pick from. Also the choice of dressings was a bit meager. I think Manhattan is still where the salad places rule supreme.
