The Luncheonette reviews

Amazing small restaurant. Not the best for more than 10 people to come and eat in the morning, but definitely a good place to get a cup of coffee and some extremely delicious breakfast food. My girlfriend and I visited here while up in Richmond and everything was great. Great coffee. Great breakfast, great service, great people, great place.

This is a tiny, rather worn little restaurant in Shockoe Bottom that serves up some pretty solid breakfast fare, and at a reasonable price, especially for a city the size of Richmond. It was in easy walking distance of our hotel, and since the breakfast offerings there are rather limited, and the service rather dazed and confused, we headed to this spot.

The original owners were from NYC, and over the years collected dozens of supposedly autographed photos of celebrities in entertainment and sports. Our waitress said some are really autographed, and some were faked - now no one really knows which is which.

This is in the still distressed area of Shockoe, and the building housing the restaurant looks it. The interior is clean, but also showing all its age. We were warmly greeted, seated, and liquefied. The order was a bit slow coming out of the kitchen, but it made it.

Alice's Pancakes were very nice, as was the side of bacon. We each were served a small, round, powdered cake donut that was excellent. My order was 2 soft scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast - all very nicely done.

Good food, decent prices, and very pleasant service.

This spot is decent, if you are looking for a quick bite and there's no where else to go. The staff were friendly, seating is tight, and the coffee was good. Everything else was just o.k. I'm not sure if I'll return, but it's worth trying out at least once if you are downtown.

Came with a friend it was very busy on Sunday morning but once our orders were put in our food came quickly. The Luncheonette has a colorful, warm and cozy atmosphere. I ordered a mimosa, bisquits and gravy, and a full breakfast with homefries, scrambled eggs, buttermilk pancake, sausage and bacon which was perfect from start to finish. My favorite part of my meal was the homefries and the biscuits and gravy. Would definitely come here again.

When we arrived. I was in awe of the "diner" like environment. It is quite small. It can probably seat like 20 people. It wasn't busy today and the service was awesome. I had the bacon cheeseburger and it came with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onions. It definitely was homemade by the irregular shape of the burger, definitely wasn't a frozen patty. We had an appetizer which was the Powhatan Poutine it is French fries with sausage gravy and cheese. OMG these were the best ever! You will have to try if ever in the area. Hubby had the captain crunch French toast which he described as good. Hubby also got a dessert which was the Oreo butter cake, all of the cakes come with ice cream. That was really good also. I only had a bite because I was so full. Overall if you are looking for a diner like feel with good food and good service. This is the place to go.
They also deliver!

Amazing lunch/brunch places that exceeded our expectations in all aspects! The place is small and cozy, well decorated with old school American Diner decors. The service was great and the food was amazingly good. My girlfriend got a omelet and I got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, both were amazing! The chicken bacon ranch sandwich had this delicious jalapeño ranch sauce that was heavenly. Even the biscuit and coleslaw was surprisingly good and fresh. The service was also fast and friendly, definitely try this place out if you are looking for breakfast / brunch!

First time trying The Luncheonette and probably won't be my last. I got the Shockoe omelette which came with spinach, bacon, cheese and mushrooms. It was extremely buttery and delicious. It came with a side of potatoes and Texas toast.

I decided to try the Chicken & Waffle Rolz, they were bleh. Like not totally gross but not something I would try again.

I wanted to try the Captain Crunch French toast so I'll try it next time.

It's very small inside so if it's busy, expect to have a long wait. Friendly staff though!

Great food! And it was extremely quick. We literally had our food about 4 minutes after sitting down. Hoewever we did wait for about 15 minutes to get our check, we were kind of forgotten about. It's definitely worth a try though!

Staff is super friendly and helpful. The corned beef hash and eggs was good but the home fries ..... yum !!! Would def come back. Cute little quaint place

Welcome to the home of southern comfort food with a twist. Looking for food on a Saturday afternoon and i refused to leave the house. Thanks to Yelp, i discovered this wonderful new restaurant featuring amazing food with their own twist. I was delighted with the healthy portions and relatively cheap prices. What a wonderful addition to my local restaurant choices!

Loved the ambiance and the staff. Very fun and happening place. They have open mic on Sundays from 5 to 8. So much fun!
The reason for 4 starts and not 5 is because they are not celiac friendly so it's hard to order anything gluten free. I had a hard cider and enjoyed all the singing and poetry :)

A couple co-workers and I ordered takeout. The fried pickles were really good. The bbq sandwhich left a lot to be desired. It wasn't Carolina bbq style, but was very saucy and sweet. I would not order it again, it may have been better if they had hadn't forgotten to give us the three orders of coleslaw we were supposed to get. Tater tots were expensive for the amount served. Powhatan poutine was good, enough for multiple people. We had been excited to try the place and a bit let down. Maybe we should try eating in next time.

Owner called back to apologize for order being wrong and service even before lunch was over. Customer service wins out. We will go try again soon.

Down in Richmond for the day and I popped into this cool little hipster diner-y place for lunch. Kinda has a 50s thing going for it as far as decor and menu goes. I ordered a burger and fries. They definitely didn't cook my burger as I ordered, but at the end of the day it was juicy and I ate all of it so who cares. Fries were well seasoned too. All in all a very good price for the meal, and the server was on point with everything, so you really can't ask for more. I'd recommend this place to friends in the area for sure!

The food was amazing. I got a simple breakfast bagel sandwich ($5.25) and even that was fantastic. The home fries were An extra $1.50 and trust me, it was well worth it.

Also, I hope you get Lizzy as a server! She recommended us great food and was super sweet.

I had an amazing first experience here!

This place was open throughout the blizzard, so I walked here on a Monday afternoon to get some lunch. I wasn't expecting much, and was blown away!

Great customer service from what looked like one server who was running the place, and was even cooking (?) at some point, from what it looked like to me. He graciously let everyone know that the food might take some extra time, but it still came out without too long of a wait, and it never felt rushed at any point during the experience. PS the place is small. There was maybe 6 tables, with a couple spots to sit at the bar.

And the food. THE FOOD. I just had to try the mac and cheese fries. "Homemade" it says. Probably one of the best that I've had for a while, served over perfectly cooked fries with crunchy outsides. Topped with dried herbs, the presentation will already make you drool. I got the coffee pancakes too. Mm mm... 2 large fluffy pancakes with a hint of coffee and cinnamon, topped with strawberry pieces and whipped cream.

Definitely coming back!

Love love this place! Staffs are super friendly, cute decor and affordable menu! Last time I ordered midnight run and it was delicious! But the restaurant has very limited seating area with 5 tables and bar seats inside and 2 tables outside. When it's busy, you have to wait. But it's a very nice place for having breakfast, lunch or brunch! Can't wait to go back!

The luncheonette is a fantastic little diner in the RVA area. I've enjoyed many meals there, from the breakfast corned beef hash, to dinner items like the Powhatan poutine and RVA melt.

Everything I've had there has turned out exceptional! The subs are hearty and filling and there is a variety of options to choose from. The Powhatan poutine is a great appetizer/greasy filling food when you need a junk food fix. I had never had a poutine before but loved the combination of French fries with sausage gravy!

The service is out of this world, and always is catering to the customers needs making sure they're satisfied! Brad, Nick, and Jay are a few of the staff I've seen over and over and are always helpful and engaging.

Delivery is a great option, especially if you live close by. Fortunately for me they're only about two blocks away which makes them an easy choice when in need of a meal, from takeout to delivery to eating in.

Everything on the menu is great, but especially worth trying are the chicken and waffle rolz and the buff roll!!

Cute, small diner. I ordered the Fried Pickles and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch French Toast, both were excellent! The service was also great. I went on a Sunday evening, when they have an Open Mic. It was pretty crowded, and I had to stand around a little awkwardly for a bit for a table to open up. But it was worth the wait, and the live music was great!

I ordered online and accidentally clicked pickup (wanted delivery). I received a call saying my order was ready for pickup. The guy was super nice when I told him I couldn't pick it up and he said he could send someone out to deliver my order. It arrived at my building less than 10 minutes after that call ended. The delivery guy was super nice too. The food was not hot - my fault - BUT it was still delicious. The fries were very tasty and the side salad was a large portion and had good quality mixed greens- which is a surprise for a side salad. The club was standard and had plenty of meat. The RVA melt (chicken) had a lot of flavor and the bread was soft. I also ordered a side of mac and cheese to taste which did not disappoint. Overall, between the food taste and size, prices, and customer service I definitely recommend trying them out (I have never been inside the restaurant).

I went to Luncheonette for breakfast on a weekend. The restaurant was very busy during prime breakfast hours (small dining area). We had about a 10 minute wait before being seated. I ordered banana pancakes and a sausage patty. Luncheonette pancakes and sausage was tasty. My pancakes were filling as well. Our server was attentive. There's street parking in front of the restaurant. Luncheonette is a good choice for breakfast in Shockoe Bottom. I give Luncheonette a 3.5 rating.
